QMSS has been in talks with the Fire Department of New York to collaborate on Data Exploration events. The FDNY is hosting a small data event in early June as proof-of-concept for hosting future events as well as to solicit feedback on a planned data release in Jan 2015. Participants will be recognized for their contributions to the Open Data Initiative.

Columbia will be contributing a team of ~5 participants who will attend the event along with teams from NYU, the FDNY, Mayor's Office of Operations and several other city agencies.

We are looking to engineer a team that will represent us well and are hopeful that a good showing will open the door for continued collaboration on larger scale data events. We would greatly appreciate it if you could forward this invitation to well qualified students from your program.

Please join the FDNY's Analytics Unite at the NYC Fire Department's First ever Data Dive! Be sure to bring your laptops and problem-solving abilities to this exciting opportunity to show off your hacking muscles. Data from Fire Operations and EMS Operations will be distributed to guests, and we hope that you can help the FDNY solve a few key questions.
