As the Data Science Institute's Executive Director of Communications and Media Relations, Michelle works with the Institute’s members, affiliates, and students to tell the story of their research and its benefits to society. Michelle has spent her career communicating complex technical concepts to expert and general audiences, first at CELL, Science, and American Scientist magazines, and more recently as the head of media and publication programs for scholarly and professional associations. At the American Society for Clinical Pathology and later at the American Hospital Association, Michelle led an effort to expand the digital footprint and impact of their diversified publication and social media portfolios. Michelle served in the Peace Corps as a secondary school science teacher in eastern and central Africa. She holds a BS in biology from Brown, an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and she completed coursework toward a master of biology degree at Harvard.
