Beyond the Blue Book: Rethinking Assessment in the Age of AI

September 14, 2026
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
America/New_York
Online

Instructors are increasingly turning to Blue Books to prevent students’ unsanctioned use of Generative AI on assessments. While this analog approach to student assessment may prevent academic misconduct, it may also introduce new problems in our assessment of students’ learning. How can we assess learning without relying solely on handwritten, proctored exams?

Join colleagues and CTL staff for a discussion on rethinking assessment during the “Age of AI.” During this session, instructors are invited to share their experiences and challenges in adapting to the “Age of AI” and explore assessment strategies that deepen engagement, support course goals, and reduce opportunities for AI misuse.

A 90-minute session for Columbia instructors.
Monday, September 14, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, online
