Engaging Students with AI Purposefully
A 60-minute session for Columbia instructors.
As generating AI becomes more integrated into higher education, instructors play a vital role in helping students use it thoughtfully and critically. This hands-on workshop explores strategies for developing students’ AI literacy – both in evaluating AI output and in using AI feedback to deepen learning. You’ll experiment with AI, explore frameworks for critical AI engagement, and consider how to integrate these practices into your own teaching. You’ll examine the Peer & AI + Reflection (PAIRR) process, which combines peer feedback, AI feedback, and reflection to support meaningful revision and self-assessment, and consider how it can help your students engage with AI to support their learning.
Session objectives:
- Apply frameworks for critical AI literacy to help students evaluate and reflect on AI-generated content within their learning contexts.
- Design learning activities that integrate AI and peer feedback to deepen student learning.
Light refreshments provided.
