Using AI to Generate Role-Play Activities

October 21, 2025

Online Event

Role-play activities help students practice communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in simulated environments, but designing these experiences can be challenging. With generative AI, you can integrate chatbots directly into role-play scenarios, allowing AI to take on roles such as clients, patients, stakeholders, or historical figures to enrich classroom interactions. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore how to develop effective role-play activities using AI.

We’ll start with examples across different disciplines, highlighting the various roles that AI chatbots can play. You’ll then learn strategies for prompt engineering to ensure activities are relevant to your course context and aligned with your learning objectives. Next, during the hands-on section, you’ll create, test, and refine a role-play activity with AI. We’ll also cover important considerations such as giving clear role-play activity instructions to students, communicating your classroom AI policy, and ensuring it aligns with university-wide guidelines.
